Navigation Equipment (Speed Log)
LOG means it’s a gauge to measure speed and sailing distance of the vessel.
The speed and distance signal generated by SPEED LOG are provided to machine(RADAR, AUTO PLOT, VDR etc) to have a major impact on navigation of vessel.
Speed Log emit ultrasonic waves by transducer installed in vessel and measure speed of vessel using reflection ECHO from the ocean floor

System overview of SAL T2E

Example of a full docking log and double echo sounder functionality with the unique SAL T2+ transducer in the bow for STW, SOG and navigational depth and the E2 echo sounder in the aft. Note: only two hull enetrations needed.

Three main techniques
FAMILY | TECHNIQUE | MEASURING DISTANCE |
---|---|---|
Acoustic logs | Doppler | 3-30m m from hull |
Correlation | 10-15 cm from hull | |
Electro magnetic logs | EM | At the hull |
Benefits
- Simpler and cheaper installation
- Only ONE hull penetration
- Only ONE transducer for spare part handling
- Only ONE cable to lay to the transducer
- Only ONE gate valve needed
